Senator Mamie Locke, Virginia State Senate Democratic Caucus Chair, Endorses Jennifer Boysko For Congress

Senator Mamie Locke: “Jennifer Boysko is a proven leader who listens to students, parents, and teachers.”

Sterling, VA – Today, Virginia State Senator and Chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus Mamie Locke threw her support behind her friend and fellow State Senator, Jennifer Boysko, in her campaign for Virginia’s 10th Congressional District.

“I have seen Jennifer Boysko fight relentlessly for the issues we care about — protecting reproductive rights, addressing gun violence, expanding access to health care,” said Senator Locke.

As a former Dean of Liberal Arts at Hampton University and a longtime educator, Senator Locke highlighted Boysko’s commitment to education and Virginia students. The two have worked together in the legislature to increase K-12 school funding, make college more affordable, and expand workforce training.

“Jennifer introduced and passed Virginia’s anti-hazing statute, Adam’s Law. It was an example of the compassion she brings to this work and her willingness to listen.”

“Jennifer Boysko is a proven leader who listens to students, parents, and teachers,” Locke concluded. “It is no surprise that the Virginia Education Association named her ‘Legislator of the Year,’ in 2020.”

“Senator Locke understands the challenges Virginia families face affording higher education,” said Boysko. “Her guidance and friendship have meant so much as we’ve worked to open doors of opportunity for students. Mamie Locke sets the example of effective and ethical leadership that I hope to emulate in Congress.”

Prior to her election to the State Senate in 2004 Senator Locke was first elected to the Hampton City Council in 1996 and elected mayor of Hampton in 2000. She holds a PhD from Atlanta University. Senator Locke is the chair of the Senate Democratic Caucus and also chairs the Senate’s Rules Committee. She is a professor of political science.
